Setting Up Your First Website
Setting up your first website
Let’s start from the basics. I mean it, “The Very Basics!”
At some point in your internet marketing venture, you will find the need to have your own website. Hence you need to know a bit about webhosting
Webhosting
Free Hosting – God Forbid!
There are a few free hosting providers like:
http://www.blogger.com will host your blog http://samkern.blogspot.com
Your website will be in the form of:
http://samkern.netfirms.com or http://netfirms.com/samkern
http://samkern.doteasy.com or http://doteasy.com/samkern
However, there is always some catch with free web hosting providers. For instance some companies will put a banner on your site or put some restrictions like limited disk space, small traffic bandwidth, etc. If you are really serious about internet marketing, you would need to have your own domain e.g. http://www.mycompany.com e.g. http://www.freoreviews.com
Having your own dotcom domain not only looks professional but will also give your website or product more credibility. Most free web hosts do not allow hosting your own domain which means you would need a paid web host.
Getting your own domain
A dotcom used to cost around $30-$50 per year. However the price has come down significantly. Domains can easily be obtained under $10. Here are some popular domain registration services:
http://www.netfirms.com .com Domain for $4.99
http://www.domainsarefree.com Domain for $ 3.99
I personally like to use netfirms – it is cheap and is a very reliable company. The registration process goes fast and within a couple of hours you can start setting up your website.
